The full cost picture, up front
  • Our fee: $99 flat — paid to us for preparing your packet.
  • Surety bond premium: typically $100+ — paid by you to a licensed surety company. We prepare the application; we do not sell the bond.
  • State fees: paid to the state — Texas $15 + $28/$33; Georgia $18. Sales tax may apply if it wasn’t paid when you bought the vehicle.
ELIGIBILITY CHECKER

Do I qualify for a bonded title?

Answer six short questions. A bonded title isn’t available to everyone, and this checker will honestly turn you away if your situation doesn’t fit — we’d rather tell you now than take your $99 and fail you later.

HOW IT WORKS

Three steps, start to bonded title

Plan on weeks, not days — most of the timeline belongs to the state, not to us. Here is exactly how it goes.

1

Answer the questionnaire

Fill out the questionnaire below and gather your documents: your bill of sale or other proof of purchase, your photo ID, and clear photos of the vehicle’s VIN plate and door sticker.

Pay the $99 first or send the questionnaire first — either order works. We start preparing your packet when both are in.

2

We prepare your packet

We complete every required state form from your information, prepare your surety-bond application with the correct bond amount, and write your filing roadmap in plain steps.

Texas is two-stage: Stage 1 goes to the TxDMV Regional Service Center ($15 state fee). The state replies with a determination letter setting your bond amount; then Stage 2 goes to your county tax office together with your bond. We prepare both stages.

3

You sign, file, and get your title

Sign where the roadmap tells you, buy your bond from the licensed surety named in your packet, and file at the office listed for your county. The state issues your bonded title.

In Texas the bonded title is branded for 3 years, then a clean title can be issued. In Georgia the bond stays in place for 4 years.

NOW SERVING — TEXAS

Texas bonded title packet

Texas issues bonded titles under the TxDMV’s bonded title process. It runs in two stages, and the order matters — filing Stage 2 before the state sets your bond amount gets the filing rejected. Your packet handles the sequence for you.

  1. Stage 1 — Apply to the state. We prepare Form VTR-130-SOF (Statement of Fact for Bonded Title) with your supporting documents. You file it at a TxDMV Regional Service Center with the $15 state fee.
  2. The state sets your bond amount. TxDMV issues a Notice of Determination stating the bond you must buy: 1.5× the state’s value of the vehicle.
  3. Buy the bond. Purchase the surety bond from any Texas-licensed surety company using Form VTR-130-SB. We prepare the bond paperwork with the exact amount from your determination letter. Typical premium is around $100 or more, paid to the surety — not to us.
  4. Stage 2 — File at your county tax office within 30 days of buying the bond. We prepare Form 130-U (Application for Texas Title and/or Registration) and assemble everything: your bond, the determination letter, your Stage 1 documents. Title fee is $28 or $33 depending on your county, and 6.25% sales tax may apply if it wasn’t already paid on the purchase.
  5. Drive on a bonded title for 3 years. The title is branded “bonded” for 3 years. After that, if no claims were made against the bond, you can apply for a clean, unbranded title.
Bond amount1.5× the state’s value of the vehicle, as set in the Notice of Determination.
Older vehicles (25+ years)If the state’s value comes in under $4,000, it is set to $4,000 — so the minimum bond on a 25+ year-old vehicle is $6,000.
No Texas record of the vehicleA law-enforcement VIN inspection (Form VTR-68-A) comes first, before Stage 1. Your packet flags this and tells you where to get it done.
State fees you pay$15 (Stage 1) + $28 or $33 title fee by county. Bond premium and any sales tax are separate.
Hard deadlineFile Stage 2 within 30 days of purchasing your bond, or the bond expires and you start the bond step over.
NOW SERVING — GEORGIA

Bonded title in Georgia (title by surety bond)

Georgia issues a title by surety bond under O.C.G.A. § 40-3-28 when you own a vehicle but can’t produce its title. The bond protects anyone with a prior claim on the vehicle while the state puts a title in your name.

  1. We prepare your forms. Form MV-1 (title application), Form MV-46 (surety bond), and Form MV-46A (supporting affidavit) — completed from your questionnaire answers.
  2. VIN inspection. A law-enforcement officer or county tag agent inspects the vehicle and completes Form T-22B. Your roadmap tells you exactly how to arrange it.
  3. Buy the bond. The bond amount is 2× the Georgia Department of Revenue’s average retail value of the vehicle, with a $5,000 minimum and a 4-year term. You buy it from a licensed surety; the premium (typically $100+) is paid to them. We prepare the application.
  4. File at your county tag office within 6 months of the bond being issued. Your packet includes the NMVTIS (national title database) check result and everything the tag office needs. State title fee: $18.
Bond amount2× the Dept. of Revenue average retail value, minimum $5,000, 4-year term.
State fee you pay$18 title fee. Bond premium is separate, paid to the surety.
Hard deadlineFile within 6 months of the bond being issued.
Not eligible in GeorgiaVehicles from model year 1985 and older do not qualify, and abandoned vehicles are handled under a different Georgia process — a bonded title is not available for them.

PRICING

What you pay, and what you don’t pay us

One flat fee for the paperwork. The bond and the state’s fees are separate, and we’ll never pretend otherwise.

Our fee — the packet

$99

flat, per vehicle. Covers:

  • Every required state form, filled in from your information
  • Both packet stages where the state has two (Texas Stage 1 and Stage 2)
  • Your surety-bond application, prepared with the correct bond amount
  • A step-by-step filing roadmap: where to go, what to bring, what to pay, and every deadline

Not included — paid to others

  • Surety bond premium — paid to the licensed surety company that issues your bond. Typically a $100 minimum; the exact premium depends on the bond amount.
  • State fees — Texas: $15 + $28 or $33 by county. Georgia: $18.
  • Sales tax — Texas charges 6.25% if it wasn’t already paid when you bought the vehicle.

Optional add-on — $49 “rejection rescue”: if the state rejects your filing over a fixable paperwork defect, we re-prepare the corrected packet. Add it any time before you file; just mention it in your questionnaire or email us.

FAQ

Straight answers

Is this legal advice?

No. Bonded Title Packet is a document preparation service. We prepare paperwork at your direction, from the information you provide, using the states’ published forms and criteria. We are not a law firm, we are not attorneys, and nothing on this site is legal advice. If your situation involves a dispute over who owns the vehicle, talk to a licensed attorney in your state.

Do you sell the surety bond?

No. Only a licensed surety company can issue the bond, and you buy it directly from them — the premium (typically $100 or more) is paid to the surety, never to us. What we do is prepare your bond application with the correct bond amount for your state, so buying the bond is a short, simple step.

How long does the whole thing take?

Plan on weeks. Our preparation is the fast part — once we have your payment and completed questionnaire, your first-stage packet is typically ready within a few business days. After that, the state’s clock controls the timeline: in Texas, the determination letter from TxDMV commonly takes a few weeks to arrive, and you then have 30 days from buying your bond to complete Stage 2. Most people should expect roughly 4–8 weeks from start to bonded title, depending on the state’s backlog and how quickly they file each stage.

What if my vehicle has a lien on it?

It depends on the lien and the state. In Texas, if the lien is less than 10 years old, the state requires a release of lien from the lender before a bonded title can be issued — you’ll need to contact the lender and get that release letter first. Liens 10 years or older are generally handled within the bonded title process itself. If you’re not sure whether your vehicle has a lien, say so in the questionnaire — a title record check is part of how the state processes Stage 1, and we’ll tell you what your packet shows.

What if I have no bill of sale?

We can’t help — and neither can the bonded title process. Both Texas and Georgia require proof of how you acquired the vehicle: a bill of sale, a signed receipt, an inheritance document, or similar paperwork. A bonded title is not a way to title a vehicle you can’t show you obtained. If you bought the vehicle and the seller is reachable, ask them to sign a bill of sale now; once you have any proof of acquisition, come back and run the checker again.

What states do you serve?

Texas and Georgia now. North Carolina, Arizona, Illinois, and Florida are in preparation — join the waitlist in the coming soon section and we’ll email you when your state opens. We only prepare packets for the state where the vehicle will be titled.

What is your refund policy?

If we determine we’re unable to prepare a packet for a case that passed the eligibility checker, we refund our $99 fee in full. Once a packet is prepared and delivered, the fee is earned — the preparation work is done. Decisions made by the state (approving or denying a title, setting a value or bond amount) are the state’s, and we can’t refund fees you paid to the state or to a surety company, since those were never paid to us.
